Pine Needle Basket Weaving
|
| Eunice Donald is a Simpcw First Nation Elder. She has been creating traditional Pine needle baskets since 2003.
Offerings are made and the pine needles collected. Needles take approximately 2 weeks to dry.
Coiling the baskets takes a lot of patience and time. Sinew thread is used to hold weaving in place. As you can see by the following pictures each one turns out very unique and beautiful.
Eunice also makes pencil holders, platters, clocks, picture frames, trays and baskets of all shapes and sizes from the pine needles. |

Drum and Rattle Making
|
| Sam Saul is a Simpcw First Nation Elder. He has been making drums and teaching workshops for 30 years now. Sam also makes large Pow Wow drums and rattles.
Ivan Villeneuve has been working as a apprentice learning from Sam for a couple years now. Ivan adds his own unique gifts as an artist by painting the drums or rattles on request.
Drum sizes vary from 10, 12, 14, 17 or larger on request. Drums can be created from Moose, Elk, Deer, or Buffalo hides. Rattles are made from buffalo horns and deer and moose antlers and deer or moose hide. |
